Can we just go back to pen and paper? Or at least do both in tandem so that way it won't matter if something gets hacked because there's a physical master copy that can't be changed without extreme scrutiny and detailed checks?

I mean we have that with voting machines and remember the scanner made specifically to take reciepts and put it into a finance program they sold. I could totally see an office where it was paper and there was a slot that scanned the image the then even automatically filed it based on the contents.

Treasury Department has a back door available for a third party software, ironically named Beyond Trust, which is then hijacked. Who could've seen this coming?

Just kidding, I'm going to guess that Beyond Trust has been cutting and underpaying employees to the point where the people that work for them are either not good at their job or don't give a shit anymore. But at least their shareholders were happy!
