Loose business casual I can see, e.g. no croptops or logos on shirts, but no jeans? C'mon. Top that off with the shoe example they gave and FIDE just sounds pretentious.

Yea, dress code rules like this just sounds like a way to keep out poor people. I can understand business casual, no logo, wear shoes. FIDE just wants to keep chess to the "right" people.

It seems there was a second player wearing trousers styled to look like jeans and these were deemed okay. Presumably denim is verboten?
