I lived in Hiroshima for a bit and it was close enough to Iwakuni that I grew my hair out so I wouldn't be mistaken for a marine on leave. There were a bunch of places they weren't welcome or needed to be in the company of a Japanese person.
Damn, that's rough.
Hiroshima is such a lovely place, I very much enjoyed the overall vibe. I have engraved some images like young guys sitting in the river banks and playing guitar in the dusk... Feels to me like a very nice place to live. I wish things were better.
The museum has probably played a role on that as well, some things are a gut punch. But still...
I still have some origami that I was given by schoolchildren next to the memorial, sitting in my desk. I just cant bear to throw these away after all those years.
