Even if you compare the amount of civilians that have died in the U.S. War in Afghanistan, you see that much more civilians were killed in the Soviet war than the American war. What is the cause of this?

The casualties were widely exaggerated by the mujahideen to use as propaganda. The USSR actually killed far fewer civilians than the US. The Triumph of Evil starting at page 65 has a good explanation.

Not been paying any attention to the Russian tactics in Ukraine? Precision has never been their strategy. Look back to WW2, they prioritized making inaccurate large mobile missile platforms that just carpet bombed everything. They have zero problem commiting what most nations view as war crimes.

While I don't exactly support the US use of drones and "tactical" bombs on residences and such. They are at least trying to eliminate a specific target. The Russians just try to kill anything and everything in an area.
