Are these worth getting for Steam VR?
Does anyone have one that they use for Steam VR and can talk to how well they work?

I use a Quest 3 wirelessly with Wi-Fi 6 and AV1 encoding. Love it
I used to own a quest 2 and would use it exclusivly for PCVR. The big thing that made me sell it was all the problems that come with streaming games from another computer:
For these reasons, as well as all the bullshit that comes with a Meta product, I got an og HTC vive instead. I do miss how convenient the quest was though.
I have a Quest 3, mainly play PCVR via VD. It's not perfect, but it's pretty damn good. I don't really notice much, if any delay, and the streaming quality itself is largely dependant on your settings and router capabilities, for me it's sometimes noticeable but definitely not enough to put me off it.
Even with Wifi6? Thats disappointing.
I'll just keep waiting for the next Steam VR. Hopefully thats just a direct, dedicated wireless HDMI.
Although even a USB 4 cable would be fine. I just dont have the space for all the room cameras.
I cant relate to the above poster at all. Streaming has been flawless to me. I dont notice the delay at all and the image looks great. I am using a Wifi 6 router.
I would never want a cabled headset or one with base stations. No need whatsoever after you get a headrest with extra battery.
I guess I'll just have to get one from somewhere with a good returns policy.
I would prefer it without any cables, but I'd take it over a bad picture, or from a platform like Oculus.
Im usually quite picky when it comes to image quality and response times and i was impressed. My pc is a floor above me and i was thinking the same thing as you.
Maybe its because i use virtual desktop instead of oculus link
I used the cheapest wifi AP recommended by Virtual Desktop, the SFT1200, so your wireless setup is probably better than mine. I'm also using a low end GPU, so frametimes are not always the best. The biggest thing was honestly the Meta bullshit:
Set virtual desktop to use AV1 encoding. Makes a world of difference.
I got a quest 3 for steam vr and using the link cable connected to a usb 3 I like it
The battery still does drain but super slow and usually lasts me a full long play session (sorry my sense of time is shit)
I got mine because my laptop has limited ports and the quest checked my boxes
I use virtual desktop when I play wirelessly but I really use it rarely because like the other guys said it’s like a YouTube video, so I use a cable
Btw Kiwi is a excellent brand if you go for a quest I have their controller straps, the Head strap, and the Link cable which has this little cheap plastic piece to move where the cable drops from the side of your face to the side of the strap
I love them way better than the metas overpriced stuff so if you get a quest i recommend those
