I know the feelings of the subjects of the article all too well. I was promoted to mid level manager for a year and hated it. I'll never do it again. I'm quite happy to stay a lowly peon in the organization and make less money. The extra pay just ain't worth the additional responsibilities, hours, and stress.

I have a coworker who should be running my whole department, she knows the business inside and out, knows all the major players in other companies and is straightforward with no bs. She has turned down the job so many times and after a while I slowly began to get it.

I'm in that same boat. Turned down a management position when they offered a sweet 0.6% raise

Mine offered to pay me half the rate of my non-management work. But I did get a decent raise for my non-management work from the promotion.

Same here, I didn't put in "extra hours" because why would I? I'd just earn less.

Am a base code grunt now, no regrets.

I keep getting directed into management roles but I know I am a shit manager so I have to keep rejecting the bumps.

I've had multiple companies try to promote me to management and I've turned them all down. There is zero incentive to take on all the extra work, hours had stress. Not to mention you're the punching bag between workers and those making bad decisions.

Hell no I'm good with minimal responsibilities.

I checked my Viva insights last week and learned that I had 118 meetings over the last 4 weeks. Tank is empty, y'all are getting best effort.

I got offered low level management or redundancy.

Took the "promotion", with a slight pay hike, and now I'm spending the extra money on counselling for stress and anxiety.

All while watching the industry I work in spiral downwards after an artificial COVID years high.
