Homeworld is well worth your time, I haven't played a game quite like it since. People go back and forth on the merits of the remastered edition, as it's mechanically based on HW2 which just never bit me back. Something about being force jumped as soon as objectives completed kept me on the back foot in a way I find not fun.

I know I’ll be in the minority, but I really enjoyed Homeworld Cataclysm the most. It didn’t have the fuel mechanic which made the original a bit tedious, and it had the much improved HUD. I recall the story pacing being great too. I’m not sure if it’s in this bundle though.

it's not - Homeworld Cataclysm is available on GOG as Homeworld Emergence. something about Blizzard trademarking Cataclysm -

"As for the new title, that's a precautionary move. "'Cataclysm' is now a registered trademark of Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., and the game has been renamed to avoid confusion," GOG said." - https://www.pcgamer.com/gog-brings-17-year-old-homeworld-expansion-cataclysm-back-from-the-dead/

I still need to play Cataclysm. I've heard only great things about it. Fun fact, you don't have to worry about fuel if you don't use strike craft. I'm probably outing myself as a bad player who gets his super-capitals into trouble but I recall multi-gun corvettes making a pretty effective screen.

Homeworld is so good I’ve purchased it 3 times over the years on separate platforms.

Can’t speak to any of the issues of playing the HW1 campaign on the HW2/remastered engine. It’s been so long since I’ve beaten the campaign that I can’t remember if it was on the original engine or remastered (that’s the great thing about old video games, you always remember them looking so much better than they do haha!)

I listened to that soundtrack longer than I've listened to some decent artists, ngl

Severed Steel was given away a while ago and I absolutely recommend it. It's like a mix of Ghostrunner and Mirror's Edge. There's also a ton of community levels that are fun to go through! No excuse not to play it now.

Interesting thanks for the info, it looks pretty intense/fast paced for what I'm into right now, but I may give it a try in the future.

I'll grab this, because free, but I'll be the voice of dissent and say I really didn't like homeworld. I felt like adding a third dimension increased the effort quite a bit as you obviously need to select an x, y axis and then designate a z axis as well.

It never really felt like it offered proportionate rewards to the mental and physical overhead. As an RTS, it felt fairly similar to any other RTS, and the third dimension seldom felt rewarding to me.

I feel like it really needed done harder science fiction momentum to make you really use the space to your advantage or add some softer science fiction tech that would reward formations and angles of attack in a meaningful way.

Maybe you should try Homeworks: Deserts of Kharak. It's more or less a direct translation of Homeworld's gameplay to a 2D setting.

Homeworld, bro! I spent a lot of time with that game as a teenager. Cool RTS, easy to learn. Great game for headphones, the sound design is excellent 👌

Homeworld is worth owning on Steam so that you don't risk the store shutting down.
