This is my first year growing anaheims - when is a good time to harvest them?

You could probably pick the larger one now if you don’t want them to ripen red. See how that one tastes, based on that decide whether you want to pick the rest or wait a bit

Are Anaheims similar to jalapenos? They have a very similar look.

They are both very pepper like in appearance, yes. But jokes aside, the flavor is similar but Aneheims are much less spicy. You can use Anaheim peppers if you want a more volume of pepper with less spice. Almost like a jalapeno flavored bell pepper
