I have the Schlage Z-Wave Plus locks and they have been great. The main issue with battery life is fitment between the bolt and the strike hole. There should be no friction between them when engaging or retracting the bolt. I’m still on my original batteries after nearly 2 years.

I used the original batteries for about 2 years as well. Then a year and a half..then a year...I gave up when it got to every month (after having to break into my own condo) and have been carrying a key ever since. Same door, no fitting issues.
I'm still eyeing Schlage for a new one when I move but I wanted to toss my experience in here as someone who used one for 6+ years. Still think it was worthwhile but YMMV on battery life over time

It’s not necessarily any cheaper unless you get it on sale, but I’ve been a big fan of my August smart lock. I don’t have anything bad to say about it other than the built in auto-unlock could be a bit quicker (but then it’d likely drain phone batteries more, constantly polling for location.) and letting Home Assistant handle the automation solved that.
Do they still offer a model without their app requirements?
I've been happy with Yale B1L
I have two of the Schlages and they work great. The Keymaster integration works flawlessly once they are set up. It was the setup that took a bit but that’s because I didn’t know how Zwave is ui worked at the time. Battery life is not a problem at all.
