I am currently using Podcast Addict, but am not finding it at all intuitive.

On another - work - phone, with a very restricted range of approved apps, I was using Spotify, which worked a lot better for me, but I would like to go for a podcast-specific app given the choice, since I don't plan on using Spotify for actual music or anything, and it seems a bit overkill for podcasts alone.

Do you have any recommendations?

I use and really like AntennaPod

I started using PocketCasts years ago based on a recommendation I saw in a thread like this, and I've stuck with it all this time. It consistently comes up in recommendation threads for good reason: great features and UI, customizable, no pushy BS. The big gripe I see most people mention is that having listening history sync between your phone and desktop is a premium feature, but I only ever listen on my phone so I've always been happy with the base version.

Google has a pretty good podcasts app, but u stopped using it after it reset my subscriptions a few times.

I am now using Pocket Casts (paid version). I don't know if you'd call it intuitive, it's not much different from Google podcasts, I guess you have to get used to the app before it becomes intuitive for you.

Pocketcasts, or Antennapod if you want FOSS.

I've gone with Antennapod (FOSS is always going to be my preference) and it is doing everything that I want.
