Big fan of this novel and Merceil's work on the setting in general. This book features great descriptions of Strix, Nidal, and Pathfinder's takes on Wizards and Sorcerers. There's even spell components and counterspells!

If you want to read a different take on the "magic school" genre, give this one a shot.
