I can’t stop reading the name as Blahaj(i). Now I’m imagining an overwhelmed plush shark doing its best to bribe the malaysian authorities

The Network State is described by Srinivasan as “a highly aligned online community with a capacity for collective action that crowdfunds territory around the world and eventually gains diplomatic recognition from pre-existing states.”

This reminds me of those libertarians(*) who keep trying to build a community in the no mans land somewhere in the Balkans on a fucking floodplain of all things. I heard they need saving/rebuilding every now and then. (I assume with the recent floods they are not doing well). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberland. And yes, they have a cryptocurrency why did you ask?

pictures of the hotel.

This reminds me of something else. I'm going to have to download something and check something out. (E: I checked, it reminded me of the hotel in the game Dead Island, but the game had a bigger hotel, a better pool, and less annoying visitors, so I was wrong on that one (I did pick up an achievement)).

*: they might be a secret third thing

Oh so forest city finally got confirmed? Remarkable

Also, 150? I guess you gotta keep your ~~cult~~ ~~indoctrination camp~~ “experiment” small in the beginning, lest social problems get away from you

(That number also strikes me as curious for another reason, will try word it tomorrow though brain too tired now)

all a bit Dunbar

but yeah, if Balaji wanted a private city then buying or renting the empty development fraud seems the closest he has to a prospect

Your filthy squatters

dunbar's the one thing that came to mind, yeah

also it's sorta in the ballpark of upper limit for "scramble logistics", things that you need to do very quickly because you suddenly found you didn't have enough $x or need to quickly $y. 150's just about enough to easily fit into handful of boats within a 20~30min, you can get food prepared for that many people within reasonable time, etc

(proximity to main MY/SG cities probably help a lot with this, but also only in a "okay we can do this in an hour" vs "we need a day" way)

Of note too is that Malaysia, while viewing booze as legal to sell, takes a very dim view of narcotics use.

very dim view

the prison time kind or execution kind?

Ah seems execution is no longer mandatory (jesus christ ...)

We flew in to KL from Amsterdam on a KLM flight and the first officer politely reminded all passegners of the legal situation.

I imagine the rubbish bins just outside the gate are rich pickings...
