Only thing I have to say about anyone trying Sekiro is: don't worry about dragon rot. It is not a big deal as you first think. Like, at all.
Can you believe that actually put me off of playing it for a year or so?

Hey congrats, that's quite an accomplishment. I bought the game from Steam and spent 2 hours struggling to get through the tutorial... which I failed.
I ended up returning the game. I still have it on my wishlist, but I'm going to wait for it to reach some epic all time low price, before I subject myself to that level of suffering (and growth) again.
I’ve played all the Souls games and Elden Ring to 100% but Sekiro I couldn’t make it more than a few hours into before it became unbearable. I decided to install a mod to slow time down by 50% so I could better understand the timing. I still couldn’t fucking play it!
I recently bought Hi-Fi Rush and spent a solid week absolutely hating myself. I realized that my timing is piss poor and I have absolutely no rhythm and every time I played the game I lost a little respect for myself, until… I installed it on my SteamDeck. Now suddenly I’ve gone from D rankings to S rankings?
So I went back to my PC and dug out my old Xbox 360 controller, plugged it in and… yep. I’m fucking great at Hi-Fi Rush. It was the damn latency from the wireless controller. Weird thing was none of the latency settings in the game helped. Because Zeus knows I tried every one hoping it wasn’t me.
Long story short, I really need to reinstall Sekiro and give it a try with a wired controller.
Thanks for the idea. I used an Xbox One controller... but I don't recall if I was wired or not.
However, I really like the idea of slowing the game down.
Oh I know that feeling. I don't know if you remember the dragon rot thing that happened if you died too much. Well pretty much every NPC had dragon rot for a long time in my playthrough haha.
Sekiro is my favorite Fromsoft game. When I first played it I kinda hated it, but at one point the deflect system just clicked and I couldn't stop playing after finishing ng+7 all endings...
Sounds like I have to give Sekiro a try. Love me a game with satisfying parrying/deflection mechanics over just pure dpsing.
It's a steep learning curve (was for me anyway), but it's really rewarding when you get it.
On Elden Ring, I thought the bosses were one of its weaker points if you include the Gaols. Simply there were too many, of which only a few stand out.

I gave up at the first Owl fight and haven't come back to it yet, but I had to start DS1 five or six times before I finally finished it (and quickly played the other three Souls games).
Did you stop before or after that point?
I stopped before that point. I think it was around the guardian ape. I had read how the game started to click with people after Genichiro, but that didn't happen with me, so I thought it never would. It definitely did towards the end game. But hey, it might not be for everyone, and that's ok too.
