Drafts (self.summit)

I've noticed some different behavior of the drafts lately, but I hadn't noticed any release notes about it. When editing and then re-saving, it now overwrites the original. This bit me the first time I saw it, as when I went to delete the old version, that meant I deleted the only version. I like this behavior better by default I think, but was there a release post with changes I missed?

I was also wondering if the post preview could be worked into the draft section, perhaps via a long press to get the post preview window, or maybe different view options like with the post feed. I've built up a bit of a surplus of future content, so I forget which post is which, and with it not saving backups now, I worry about loading the draft to the post screen and messing it up somehow without having a backup now, so having the ability to preview with image content viewable would let me see which draft is which easier without the chance to accidentally edit and moving the draft up to the top instead of keeping it chronological.

As usual, I feel this may be an "only me" problem, so no priority here unless some of this behavior was an unintentional result of another update.

Thank you as always for your great work. Your frequency of updates and overall quality of the app is top notch!

Yes, there was a bug fix here but I forgot to mention it in the changelog I think. On release, drafts would auto-update so it doesn't create a new draft every time. However at some point this broke and every time you modified a draft, it would save as a new draft. I fixed this issue so it went back to the original behavior but I forgot to disclose this.

This is an interesting and unique use case. I will add something to the roadmap to track this use case. To make sure I understand correctly, essentially you would like a much more powerful draft management system with better ways to preview drafts. Is that correct?

One thing I will mention from my own experience is for these more involved use cases, it might be better to off load this to another app/solution altogether. Eg. using a markdown based document management app such as Obsidian, Notion, etc might be a better solution in the long term as you also get features such as backups and history. This is just a suggestion though and it doesn't mean Summit can't have a better draft management system. This is just how I would tackle the problem if I were in your situation.

I appreciate the advice! I don't know what those things are, but I can look into them.

Also, I could probably just change my post format and move the source link to the end so I could get some actual description into the first 2 lines that show in the preview.

There are definitely options.

I post niche content where I don't necessarily have new stuff every day, so I try to stock up on it as I find it so I have about a week's worth of posts on reserve.

It's photo based, so without some sort of photo preview, I can't usually tell what it was from the cutsey title after a few days.

Something like this, where it looks more like list view would work, but then I was thinking I didn't know if it was easier to do something like just make it do what you already have it set to do when you clicked the post preview icon.

Again, you do so much for us already, so if it's more work than it's worth, I understand perfectly. I didn't want you to do something just for my sake. It was mainly just a thought while asking about the draft behaviors.
