"Transportation using lightweight vehicles such as bicycles or scooters, especially electric ones that may be borrowed as part of a self-service rental program in which people rent vehicles for short-term use within a town or city.

micromobility is seen as a potential solution to moving people more efficiently around cities"

It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

Don't be an asshole or you will be permanently banned.

Respectful debate is totally OK, criticizing a product is fine, but being verbally abusive will not be tolerated.

Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.

For me I've been riding my new mten5 around a lot. It gets about 20 miles of range and will happily cruise at 20mph (max is somewhere over 30).

I also have an ebike, escooter, and 3 other electric unicycles (EUCs) but this little ripper has been my favorite this week.

I have only ridden my bike, a longboard, and a skateboard. No electric so far lol

Here's the boards:

I love those! Drop through longboards are so comfy, but the maneuverability of a kick tail cruiser is nice too

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I'm still getting the hang of longboarding but it rolls for days!

I gave up on trying to commute with mine and switched back to my street board. Same for the Shakedown. They're both too carvey, I need to tinker with them more. My old board is pretty dialed in though.

Does everyone have a shakedown?

I put 95A bushings in mine, tightened them down to about 2.5-3 threads, added extra shock risers, and waxed the cut outs. I still get a bit of wheelbite but I really have to lean into it and when it happens it only kinda slows down.

You might have to try out different bushings but I'm right around 210-220 lbs to give you a frame of reference. My least favorite part of the board is that my foot hits the rear wheel when I push because it sticks out beyond the board.

Yep. It's not my favorite board, looks beautiful though.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

I have both of those boards haha. The longboard is super carvey and pushes well but kinda sucks on hills (or at least I'm not good with it on hills).

The Shakedown has been giving me a lot of wheelbite though, I have been very frustrated with mine despite it being a beautiful board. Going to get some harder bushings and maybe a riser and see I guess.

Sadly, I am recovering from a crash that a faulty fender on my Engwe caused and have been driving this week.

Hopefully I'll heal up fast but to anyone out there that has an Engwe: Remove your front fender bolts that attach the stays to the fork and replace them with zip ties or remove the fender entirely.

These shitty fenders fail and wrap around the front tire, sending the rider into the pavement at great speed. Bones were broken, Engwe did not give a single shit and as far as I can tell, they are taking no action to fix the issue.

To anyone considering their bikes: Look elsewhere, they are not worth it and the company apparently DGAF if you get killed as long as they have your money.

[–] corm 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'm sorry to hear that! So the front locked up and you had a highside crash? That's my greatest fear on my ebike (heybike ranger s) and my motorcycle (suzuki gs500). I hope you heal up and can get back to riding soon, and I'm glad you're still alive and coherent

And that really sucks that Engwe didn't care

Yeah, my helmet probably saved my life. RIP in peace Bell Super Air R, you were a good helmet.

Quality fenders will have some sort of emergency breakaway in case something fails but cheaper ones that are all metal lack this basic safety feature. You can create your own breakaways by replacing the bolts with some 5-10 lb zip ties that will break and throw the fender instead of you.

Bell Super Air R is such a good helmet, great choice

I have a similar helmet that I wear when going from 20-30mph from Smith, anything faster and I use my sedici motorcycle helmet

You should probably make an actual warning post about this so more people will see it. You aren't the first to get thrown by an Engwe because of the fender.

Much love, thanks for running this place, it's the only good PEV community outside of reddit

Glad to hear it! Early days still, so hopefully we will grow more and become a great resource.

how are these things safe?

[–] corm 4 points 3 months ago

I haven't heard of anyone crashing due to hardware failure on any EUCs in the past year, so they've gotten pretty reliable.

Personally after a couple thousand miles I've never had a crash that wasn't caused by me running into something stupidly, and I've never had an injury. Just wear kneepads/helmet/wristguards and you'll be fine.

Skateboard gang checking in

upload isn't working... Will try later.

[–] corm 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I have to go to "edit" and then "crop" during upload, if you're using Sync for lemmy. Otherwise the image is too big

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

I'm on Connect. I might have to use a browser.

Don't have any electric vehicles, but my bicycle stays the favorite week after week. Small playful trail bike is just a crapton of fun to commute or whatever. Fancy a route through forest? No problem. A steep staircase? Awesome! It can take anything you can possibly throw at it on your route or detour

It's not very efficient on asphalt or gravel but the fun makes up for it

Edit: pic

[–] corm 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's awesome, you should share a pic of it too!
