Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas City have locked out over 9,000 workers following failed labor negotiations.

The shutdown could severely damage the Canadian economy and disrupt cross-border trade with the U.S.

Rail transport is crucial for shipping goods like grain, coal, and petroleum, accounting for 14% of the $382.4 billion in bilateral trade between the countries.

Despite industry groups urging government intervention, talks stalled over issues like worker safety, rest, and scheduling.
