Meta has permanently banned The Cradle on Instagram and Facebook for covering West Asia fearlessly, with nuance and accuracy.

We view this as a blatant attack on free speech and journalism. The Cradle will continue its reporting mission, unimpeded. Follow us on X, Telegram, YouTube, TikTok, and Rumble.

Last Friday, Meta permanently banned The Cradle Media's account on Instagram, followed a few hours later by the removal of our news page on Facebook.

The Cradle's mission has always been to practice journalism as it was intended, reporting on West Asian geopolitics from the ground, covering the region fairly, with views widely representative of the people, politics, and events shaping the Levant and the Persian Gulf.

Today, the most pressing global news story in every outlet around the world is Israel's war on Gaza and its direct impact on a wider regional war. It is not possible to cover these events without quoting from and reporting on resistance movements in Lebanon, Palestine, and Yemen that oppose the status quo. Every global news outlet quotes from these organizations and its officials, but The Cradle has been singled out by Meta because of our foundational mission to cover regional perspectives rarely seen in media.

We view Meta's actions as an attack on journalism and freedom of speech, something that we believe is a fundamental part of informing global audiences on crucial events that impact their lives.

The attempt to de-platform The Cradle is also part of a much larger campaign to silence accounts that give Palestinians and regional actors a voice, and perpetuate the one- dimensional characterization of West Asians in the western media that has led to mass disinformation and hysteria about this region.

Media must report on both sides of conflict. Banning reporting of only one set of perspectives is a clear implication that Meta is therefore partisan in this conflict.

When Americans and Europeans wonder what went wrong with their Iraqi, Afghan, Syrian, Libyan, Yemeni, Ukraine wars, it is because they operate in an information bubble. The Cradle seeks to burst media bubbles and dispense with whitewashed versions of events. You might not like to hear it, but you will at least be informed.

The Cradle will continue to carry out its journalistic duty, to uncover the facts, challenge misinformation, and report on the people, politics, and events of West Asia with breadth, depth, and nuance unavailable elsewhere.
