To anyone confused, watch this video. It is a graphical representation of e^(pi)(i). Imagine, then, graphing it with half of pi instead. It would result in a 90 degree rotation instead of 180 degrees. And what is 8 rotated 90 degrees? An infinity symbol.

I mean, kinda? I dunno if "pun" is the right word, but certainly a joke. I teach college math, btw.

Sometimes, humans should not be allowed to play with numbers. This is one of those times.

The joke is that the 8 gets rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise which turns it into an infinity symbol.

I'm by no means a mathologist or anything but I'm calling bullshit. Something times 8 is infinity? C'mon

e^(i pi/2) rotates a point 90 deg around the unit circle. The joke is that it simply rotated 8 by 90 degrees.

Ok. That's great, stupid joke. I love it

The joke is that 8 lying down (ie, rotated by 90°) is ∞

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago

e shot 8, now 8 is dead.

It's not true. The joke is that the 8 gets rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise which turns it into an infinity symbol.

Unless you're learning some really advanced stuff I've never heard of, no I'm pretty sure it's counterclockwise as that's the direction angles are measured on a unit circle.

I was just visualizing it in my head, but now I realized I had put imaginary on x and real on y. My coordinate system was flipped.

Ah, there ya go.

Thanks, I hate it.

If I weren’t already sitting down, I’d fall over too when presented with this equation.

This is hilarious. Sadly, I can't share it with any of my friends
