ReasonLabs says the infection starts with the victims downloading software installers from fake sites promoted by malvertising in Google search results.

Use AdBlocker, don't download from 3rd party sites, business as usual

Try Firefox, ditch Google, use uBlock Origin/piHole. Don't download random stuff from the internet.
