It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.
Seat bag has tube, levers, couple zip ties, and a small multi tool with screwdriver, hex heads etc. Bike has a small pump, in a plastic bag attached via a clip that goes on the bottle cage. Small water bottle in said cage and that's it for short rides eg 90-120 mins single track, climbing, descending etc.
I wear a cycling top so occasionally throw an orange or apple or something into the pockets at the back to pull up at a scenic spot to chill, look around and watch other riders zip past.
i carry a bunch of gear in a frame pack and a back pack. The backpack has on occasion protected my spine in a fall, so I find it superior to a waist pack.
