I’m now at a point where I can detect 152 nodes in my city. 25 are listed as “online.”

Yet the only contact I’ve gotten is the occasional “hello world” and once or twice a response to my own “hello world.”

It’s possible that nobody has anything to say, but I also suspect the network isn’t robust enough to maintain contact and facilitate a real conversation between random strangers.

Has anybody else here managed to actual chat with someone they don’t know?

Ive only just added a node; well actually 2 - but I have to say i'm rather confused by the messages I get!

I couldn't see any nodes nearby on the meshtastic maps so I have one default ish node that I paired with my phone, and then another that I setup to do the mqtt uplink/downlink stuff.

I see messages popping up on the mqtt node from time to time, but have no idea if they're directed at me or not, or who they came from - its a bit confusing for a newbie!

What kind of messages do you get?

None in the LongFast channel at all, in either iOS or web apps - even when using MQTT. But if I used the mestastic-cli-receive-text* script I could see messages coming to the unit; presumably in a different channel or DMs that weren't encrypted I suppose.
