Text for the visually impaired: Post by lestatlestits

I see Hollywood is now very into the idea of buying something once and then owning it forever and being able to make infinite copies. Which. Isn't quite the message they imparted upon me in my childhood. I the spirit of their own long-held stance:

A photoshopped version of the "You wouldn't download a car" ad saying: "You wouldn't download an actor"

Copyright violation for thee, but not for me.

The United States has the most comprehensive social safetynet and system of redress on Earth.

...exclusively for the tiny sliver of the population that already owns everything and controls our government through institutionally legalized bribery.

As has happened for all of human history, we have devolved back to the golden rule: those with all the gold make the rules, and surprise surprise, the rules say they can't lose and you can't win.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Maybe all of human history should have been incinerated.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago

My main man Molotov can mix one hell of a drink that might help 😂

[–] [email protected] 76 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Obviously this isn’t digital piracy, it’s identity theft. Hence the reason Hollywood is perfectly fine with it. 😛

[–] [email protected] 26 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Identity theft is not a joke

[–] [email protected] 23 points 2 years ago

Not with that attitude.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

Unless you're an Italian inpasta.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

When I do it, you can take it serious

Considering how expanding images on KBin is pretty inelegant at this point, I also appreciate you transcribing the meme so I don't have to open it.

[–] [email protected] 63 points 2 years ago (1 children)

You appreciate the transcription because you're blind.

I appreciate it, because kbin expands images inelegantly.

We are not the same!

[–] [email protected] 22 points 2 years ago

I ~~don't~~ see what you did there

[–] Rootiest 16 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I actually don't understand the need for this, don't images have an alt tag where you can put the image transcription?

Is it necessary to put it in the text of the post as well? (Aside from your kbin UI issues)

The "Always have been" meme but it's a picture of beans and the first astronaut says "Wait . Are we still upvoting these?" The second astronaut says "Always have been."

Or are there just not any apps that support reading the alt text yet?

[–] DharkStare 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The way kbin handles images is really annoying right now. It's definitely something the developers need to improve.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Yeah, all imgur.com images for me are blank, and I can't figure out why.

[–] sunbytes 1 points 2 years ago

Did you see the little photo icon at the bottom of the post preview?

That will expand the image (so you don't have to open the post).

[–] [email protected] 60 points 2 years ago

No no, you don't understand: the rules only apply to plebs like you and me. Corporations and their rich executives are free to do anything they want

[–] [email protected] 35 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Once again, Matt Groening predicted the future in the Napster episode of Futurama.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 years ago

I am Lucy Liu. Give me your spines.

[–] paddirn 20 points 2 years ago (1 children)

To be fair, I’ve downloaded plenty of actresses.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago
[–] TheUnicornsForever 16 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Could someone please explain me the context? I haven't followed the strike very closely.

[–] [email protected] 41 points 2 years ago

Me neither but I'll do an ignorant take and invite someone more knowledgeable to correct me: The tech to make films without human actors is available, and Hollywood studios think that they have unlimited rights forever to the digital likenesses of the actors they have contracts with. Which is pretty fucking rich from the same corporations that think we should pay for the same film on dvd, on blu ray, on blu ray in a different region, on the apple store, on the play store, and reserve the right to revoke our access to any of these where possible.

And the ad was one of their anti piracy ads ("you wouldn't download a car"), from the time where they made the nonsense claim that every pirate download was equal to lost revenue, as they tried to erode Internet privacy and bankrupt people who didn't have enough money to defend themselves in court.

[–] [email protected] 34 points 2 years ago

Studios want to hire actors for a single day's pay then use their image in whatever "AI" generated horrors they feel like forever

[–] [email protected] 24 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The meme refers to the following:

Back then™ actors would mostly get contracts that contain residuals this recurring money assured a steady cash flow for actors and actresses throughout and even after their careers.

But nowadays, the pay is worse (because inflation) and most contracts even for well known actors/actresses don't include residuals.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

Thanks. I knew none of this and would not have got the meme otherwise.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Black mirror should make more episodes so we can start saying: "black mirror did it" as the world burns down, instead of "simpsons did it".

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sure, but in the case of a show dealing with the question of what would happen if the general public could download celebrities despite the non-consent of the celebrities involved, literally Futurama did it.

Season 3 Episode 15: I dated a robot.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

It's shocking how well they predicted the future

[–] ikidd 7 points 2 years ago

Hey, I came up with that last week (sorta)!

I would download even cancer if that made spez lose money

Holding onto anger is drinking poison expecting the other person to die.

Spez is garbage, and yes never participate in whatever he's selling, but he isn't worth your anguish. He doesn't know you and he wouldn't care about your anger if he did.

Why is it double tick in this pic? Is that twitter's new thing?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

It's a Tumblr post.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

On Tumblr you can buy two blue checkmarks for a one time payment of $7.99. Much better value than that Twitter stuff.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

tumblr made fun of Twitter, you can have like a dozen checkmarks

Is text already visual? 🤨

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Can screen readers read pictures correctly?

[–] Creyapnilla 14 points 2 years ago

Even blind, listening to every word of a social media site sounds like one of the inner circles of hell 😅
