I like to repeat words or phrases I hear that stick out in the way they're said. Some of my top hits:

  • Soup or salad?
  • Hello! (in an automated call voice)
  • MoviePhone brought to you by Y-100 and the New Timesss
  • I took a piss on a development deal from Sony...and Def Jam (Immortal Tech lyric)
  • Definitely Kmart...definitely (Eminem)
  • Welcome! You've got mail! (AOL)
  • Is that sohce (sauce)? Is that extrahh (extra)? (funny TikTok skit)

Anyway, I was going down my list of words ereyesterday. When I was done, a friend that was over yelled, "Frank and beans!" from across the house, and now I think I'm seriously intellectually disabled (aka ret----d) and everyone is just being nice to me. I mean, I've achieved a high level of education and professional impact, but maybe it was with a lot of support, leniency, and accommodations. Kind of like people would be like, "Good job, big guy! You're doing great!" to my face, but when I leave, "You see? If you give them proper support, they can flourish."

Anyone else been through something similar?

Edit: Okay, I'm over it. The post was made mostly in jest, though I did have some slight doubt at first...and some lingering doubt still. Honestly, I know it doesn't really matter. To me, I'm me and confidently happy with that. I'm more concerned for how perceive me so I have an idea on why people interact the way they do with me.

Maybe this post was better suited for green text on 4chan 🤦‍♂️

Yea, I'm not clear on what op is trying to say

[–] Agrivar 0 points 3 months ago

Well, at least they're getting the point across - OP is probably intellectually disabled after all...

Oh, I didn't recognize you, I have minor face-blindness.

There are so many ways to measure a person, don't put to much stock into any particular way of doing so. This sounds like a quirk in your behavior to me, but that doesn't necessarily define you. As much as people are the same, they are different from each other and those differences make life interesting.

I think it's good to be aware of those perspectives, but you'll probably never know how real or prevalent they are in the world. In the end, it doesn't really matter what people think, though, as long as you are trying to live a good life and trying to make the best of it.

Have you looked into autism? A few of my friends do similar things, I do as well, to an extent.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Oh yeah. Definitely. I've been formally diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder by a psychologist using a thorough assessment. It's confirmed ♾️

Thanks for looking out 😊

Same!! I spent soooo much of my life trying to be normal and wondering what was wrong with me as if I had some character or moral failing. Nope. It was that I was autistic. Life's a lot better now that I know since I can adapt my life to meed my neurological needs and limitations. Did you have any major lifestyle changes??

Like someone else said that sounds like echolalia. I'll get novel words or phrases I've heard recently stuck in my head similar to how a song might (assuming you experience that, not everyone does).

You sure Kmart is Eminem, or did he get it from Rain Man?

Also, do you randomly say these things?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

He got it from Rain Man, but I'm copying what Eminem says in his song Rain Man
