Cyberpunk

"High tech, low life."

"The street finds its own uses for things."

We all know the quotes and the books. But cyberpunk is more than a neon-soaked, cybernetic aesthetic, or a gritty dystopian science fiction genre. It is a subculture composed of two fundamental ideas: PUNK, and CYBER.

The PUNK: antiauthoritarian, anticapitalist, radical freedom of expression, rejection of tradition, a DIY ethic.

The CYBER: all that, but high-fuckin'-tech, ya feel? From DIYing body mods to using bleeding edge software to subvert corporate interests. It's punk for the 22nd century.

This is a community dedicated to discussing anything cyberpunk, be it books, movies, or other art that falls into the genre, or real life tech, projects, stories, ideas or anything else that adheres to these ideals. It's a place for 'punks from all over the federated Net to hang out and swap stories and meaningful content (not just pictures of city nightscapes).

Welcome in, choom.

In my case I use the same ringtone as in 2077, use ChatGPT on my phone, have neon lights as decoration, wear Techwear from time to time, use encryption wherever I can (even just for fun) and I am a Corpo Rat by day … let me know what you do to feel more Cyberpunk?

By day, I'm a corporate puppet, lost in the shadows of suits and ties. But when night descends, I shed my corporate skin, becoming a edgerunner, the cyberpunk maestro.

Through MiniDiscs, my music empowers Edgerunners, rebels against the megacorps. I collect both MiniDiscs and cyberpunk RPGs, living and breathing the essence of the genre.

Old guy here. I am a long time punk-rocker, tech enthusiast, and generally ideologically anti-authoritarian & anti-capitalist.

By far the most punk (cyber and otherwise) thing I have done in my life is become a public school teacher working in a low-income urban school district.

Prior to my injury, day to day I was tied up in the corporate world, training at a university to be a netrunner for the megacorps. But in between, I delve deep into the grey world of cybersecurity and opsec, tinker with my tech to divest myself of corporate control and help others to the same, and act as an independent netrunner for local underground radical leftist organizations. You might say I live my ethos on my sleeve.

My pancreas is bionic (insulin pump).

So living, at a baseline, is cyberpunk lol

I really need to lean into it more, but it's fun the things you learn by diving into HackTheBox.eu or similar services.

I once got popped for triple digit speeds and discovered what the American jail experience is like as a result. I felt pretty punk for that, but it was probably just a bit silly. ;D

Too many hobbies and ex-hobbies to list, most with a touch of transgressive attitude.

Host my own VPS with docker containers running everything I possibly can to host myself.

Additionally, I also hack gear, take Nootropics (somewhat) and try to get into unsecured networks for a laugh ;).

I do 3d printing, dable in tech projects like making a Pirate Box, and hoping to build myself a Cyberdeck at some point once I get a few more parts and print the case for it.

Ahh I use the 2077 ring and sms tones as well. I think it's pretty cyberpunk in general to use decentralized/self-hosted solutions to avoid greedy corpos in the truly dystopian sense of the word.
