A poor man's alternative I've been using on other apps that feature unlimited scrolling:
Scroll down an arbitrary length. Scroll going up.
When you go back to the beginning you reached the mythical end.
Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.
Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.
Jerboa is made by Lemmy's developers, and is free, open-source software, meaning no advertising, monetizing, or venture capital, ever. Your donations directly support full-time development of the project.

I would definitely be for an option like this. You summed up my scrolling behavior in a nice lil nutshell. I'll scroll and scroll and scroll, not even knowing what i'm expecting to see, until it's 3 in the morning or later. It's not good for me and I would like an option to help me get that under control.
I agree, I'd love to have this feature. It may be more helpful to the devs to open a feature request issue on github
Maybe I'll make a Github account, we'll see.
I agree, this is the only layout feature from the website I prefer. Everything else feels efficient and convenient, but the infinite scrolling feels addictive. Whereas the pagination as you mentioned has comfortable end points to the scrolling scroll.
