This is why the Apollo program used seperate engines to land and take off. The lander engine kicks up a fucktoy of dust (or could hit a rock) and end up non-functional as a result. So you use a different engine to take off again, with a couple of backup system to get the two disconnected (the final "system" being and axe).

It's unfortunate that such a dangerous material makes such a great portal surface.
Collecting it is dangerous but we've solved most of that through automation. Once it's mixed with an adhesive is perfectly safe to use with proper PPE.
