Kinda, but not really, tacobandit from the comments put it really nicely:

As long as I am not held to an annual contract, have the option to end my subscription any time, and have the choice to choose whatever streaming service I want to pay for, it is not the same as cable to me.

Last time I had cable/satellite, it was not only multi-year contract with limited competition, but the "package" of channels always came with ~50% home shopping channels. I seem to recall that a good amount of the income such providers make is from getting a piece of every TV shopping sale.

Not sure where you live but I’ve never had a contract. I’ve had cable since the 90s. Still have it.

Don’t like cable. Seriously considering dropping it and getting an antenna.

Edit : are people down voting me because they don't like the fact that I don't have a contract?

I have lived all over the USA and have never once heard of someone having cable without at least a 1yr contract.

Where did they mention the USA?

[–] Entropywins 3 points 10 months ago

They didn't, I did cause that's the only country I have experience with cable companies.

Streaming is cable now

It has been for many years, but it is now, too.
