I was setting up my account today, and I noticed that you can enable 2FA, but the link to actually link it to an authenticator doesn't seem to work. The button for installation link appears (after saving settings and refreshing the page), but clicking it does not do anything.

What I have tried so far:

  • On Firefox with all extensions disabled

  • On Chrome with no extensions

Yeah, it's a known flaw with lemmy, the 2fa implementation is....not great at the moment. I've seen recommendations to not turn it on because it's possible to lock yourself out really easily.

I had this same issue. It's actually really simple and if you are like me you'll feel silly for not thinking of it yourself.

Right click and copy link. You can then paste it in the authenticator of your choice, bitwarden for me, and it will work perfectly.

Another option is to click the link on your phone which will then prompt you to open the link in an authenticator app, google auth and authy are what I have installed on my phone.
