That title really doesn't say much. If 97% of the population were homeowners and 3% renters, that distribution of wealth would be perfectly reasonable.

So, for context: about 20% of Irelands population lives for rent.

Wealth inequality is quite a bit worse than income inequality. People often say how our income inequality after taxes and transfers is one of the best in the world, but there's a reason we're so obsessed with homeownership: because it's not about income here, it's all about wealth, specifically real estate holdings.

The Gini coefficient for wealth is 0.66, compared to 0.45 for income
