I don't understand why this is limited to fast food workers? The article doesn't really explain why only these big chains are affected or what the reasoning is to limit it to those specific workers instead of all workers.
Economics
The way I see it is they have to start somewhere. Just getting to this point was a fight now imagine tackling the entire work industry all at once. This way at least other buisness can be faced with either paying their people more or lose them to fast food. It gives a fighting chance when negotiating a pay raise for a lot of people.
I know it isn't much and there is so much more fighting to be had but for now we gotta take the little victories while still moving forward otherwise we get bogged down with the all or nothing mentality.
I definitely don't understand why a McDonald's employee is getting a higher starting pay than an EMT or an LVN, but they are now.
It is based on the model several European countries use. There is no national minimum wage. it is collectively bargained per sector. That Is why it is only fast food workers
People don't like your ideas outside of the echo chamber, huh...
As much as I didn't ever want to work fast-food, I'm starting to think it's the only job I get that pays a somewhat livable income
Yay!
