Cher Ami: A homing pigeon who saved 194 lives in World War I. He was shot through the breast, blinded in one eye, and had a leg hanging only by a tendon, but still delivered the message! (en.wikipedia.org)

There's an animated movie about carrier pigeons in WW2. Think it's called Valiant.
