Gamel999: if you have rx580 only, you should look at VD(more options to be lower for higher fps/lower latency), not steamlink. And the most important thing is your LAN router(not your WAN speed)

Pyrofer: I second this. Steam Link will give very poor performance compared to Virtual Desktop.
TheRainmakerDM: I cant say for sure, but i believe that gpu cant be helped that much with anything. Probably you should think about upgrade gpu for PCVR. Have you tried VD? and also have you tried Steam Link? its free, i dont understand why not just trying it yourself instead of asking for it.

anomalou5: The Quest app “Virtual desktop” solved all my issues
Tookool_77: Different software won't help if your pc isn't powerful enough to run VR. But also from my experience, steam link had much more latency than air link
ackermann: While it won’t help OP’s graphics card… SteamLink should be slightly easier to setup and run, at least for Steam games, right?
No additional software to install on your PC and launch each time, beyond Steam itself? No separate VD account to setup and login to?
Allows you to get into the game just slightly faster, since there’s one less piece of software acting as a middleman?
It’s a minor issue, but for busy people with limited time to play, it might help.
Siccors: VD account? Don't remember needing one. And sorry, but having to install once a program which just autostarts on boot (at least the part which checks if someone wants to connect) is now too much work for people because of their busy schedule? For sure with that logic VD is better than Airlink, since it takes two presses of a button less to start, so easily saves you ~2-3 seconds. And VD will sometimes use OpenXR instead of Steamlink.
I have not tried Steamlink myself, only Airlink and VD, and some games give issues, and well debugging that sucks. But the majority it is literally seconds to get into your VR game.
SCOTT0852: There is no "separate VD account" though? The absolute most you have to do is enter your Oculus username into the streamer to ensure that only your own headset can connect to your computer.
In my experience, starting games in Oculus (LibOVR) mode or OpenXR (with VDXR) in Virtual Desktop is faster than starting them in SteamVR. SteamVR does a lot, it has non-negligible overhead, you may get somewhat worse framerates from needing to have it open alongside your game. It's fine enough for most games, but anything that pushes your PC or already runs at a low framerate due to poor optimization will run worse with SteamVR open.
Nago15: Use Virtual Desktop and google OpenXR Toolkit, it can give you around +15% performance. I just tested Virtual Desktop's improved ASW yesterday with Assetto Corsa Competizione locked to 60 fps instead of 72, it was smooth with no artifacts, so you can save some performance with that too.
