Let's break down the topic of tube filters. This is not a topic of what is better or worse, write how you smoke, without relying on the opinions of other people. I will then add this post as a link to the FAQ.

Below is a brief information. There are several types of them:

  • Balsa
  • Activated charcoal
  • Paper
  • Meerschaum -Metal -Adapter
  • Unfiltered

There are several diameters from 3mm to 9 mm, each with its own pros and cons, which I hope to share with my own experience by users of our community.

I prefer the airflow of a pipe absent the filter. An open airflow, like a 9mm filtered pipe with the filer absent, comes across as cooler and more flavorful to me, which is what I'm looking for.

I started off using a 9mm activated charcoal/meerschaum filter, but pretty quickly decided I preferred the airflow without it. It was quite helpful on keeping moisture down at the beginning though.
