I’ve always worn fragrances, but always just went with something relatively cheap. I was a fan of CK one for a long time, it was always a reasonable price and had a light, fresh scent imho.

Recently I’d been using Sex Panther which despite being essentially a novelty Anchorman tie-in was actually ok, certainly it didn’t smell like a turd covered in burnt hair.

The Sex Panther ran out so I thought maybe I should actually spend some money on a “proper” fragrance.

I decided to go with Sauvage Elixir as a number of people had said it was pleasant and long lasting and it does indeed smell very nice. But bloody hell it’s not cheap. Even with a discount it came in at over £100 for 60ml.

I’ve today purchased the Sauvage EDT so I have a lighter fragrance too (the difference in the two is quite marked). The EDT is also half the price of the Elixir so I can maybe use it day to day and save the Elixir for more formal occasions.

I’d be happy to hear of any recommendations people may have for other fragrances (although I’m not planning on going too mad and building up a massive collection).

Copycat Fragrances in the UK do excellent copies of contemporary fragrances.

My fragrance snob heart is crying but I think with these two you've got all bases covered, if you're not too interested in buying a bunch of stuff. Can't think of anything where these two would be inappropriate. If you want something a bit more snazzy and different from the very masculine Sauvage line, I'd recommend giving the Dior Homme Line a try. Not the newer EDT, but rather the Dior Homme Original, Dior Homme Intense or, my favourite, Dior Homme Parfum. That one's not cheap either but for the price you get at least 100 ml.
