Can confirm. I used to regularly miss my shot taking pics of things that were happening briefly because of the delay starting the camera. Now it's very snappy.

Yes the improvement is legit. It used to lag a lot even with the double press shortcut on the power button it was too slow for a quick photo.

Mine only has one year and a few months, so it's still to be seen for how long I can keep using it.

I'm happy with just the security updates and bug fixes so this is a nice extra.

It's great to see them providing software upgrades for shipped hardware. I wish more manufacturers would follow that lead.

I thought there was a typo in the title knowing the Fairphone 5 has been out for some time now.

For a moment I thought they've released a camera module with Fairphone 5's sensor for the 4.

Still too expensive for me to afford.

They’re too expensive for the processors being so old.

I think I’ll use my iPhone 15 for many more years than I would a fair phone 5, just because it won’t get too slow too quickly.

I know it’s more repairable and interpose has that, but I’ve not repaired my last 3 phones, so it’s not really something I need.

Slow speed was never an issue for any of my old android phones. I would have happily continued using my previous phone if the manufacturer bothered to provide security updates. I bought the FP4 at release and expect to use it for at least another 3 years. In my mind that justifies the initial asking price, at the time other android phones with longterm support did not exist.

I have one and have never been in a situation where it's too slow. O must say though that they should have shipped with a decent camera driver to begin with. To me the story reads like this: smartphone manufacturer releases important fix x years too late.

No word on repairing it to add the missing 3.5 mm headphone jack

I thought they would actually talk about real concerns. Instead it's a long PR about the camera

No audio jack no love for me. I got the last version that had that, next I'm going to look to other options.
