what the fuck? everyone I've seen in person and online has just rolled their eyes at this game, I thought I was part of a minorety for looking forward to it

Same. My entire friend group went "Eeeeeh, $50~ seems like a lot."

I'd given-up on playing it with friends, and then a buddy from work just randomly called me up on Teams and was like "Hey, I see you've got it in your wishlist. Wanna play this Thursday?"

Kind of surprised to see it do so well, tbh.

That studio puts out pretty much only good quality games so far, fantastic co op experiences. In a landscape where $70 is becoming the norm $50 is a nice price to come in at for a game that looks no slouch. Plus the original Helldivers was absolutely fantastic and had great word of mouth. Hopefully it lives up to it.

The first game was pretty fun, I've spent a few dozen hours playing it with friends. This looks like not-shit-starship-troopers and I've definitely wishlisted it for the first discount, but 50 bucks is too steep for a game like this.

all my excitement evaporated this morning when I found out this PvE P2P game has kernal level anticheat and is completly borked on Linux. the original didnt have any anticheat at all, and being a peer to peer game that imo was best played with friends, I think that system was ideal. very dissapointed about this rootkit

The monetization and kernel-level anticheat that breaks Linux support erased any interest I had. The game itself looks like it would be fun but I'm done with buying minimum viable product GaaS crap.

I haven't heard anything about the monetization besides it costing ~$50, does it have a battle pass or something?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

They have a premium currency you can earn in-game called Super Credits (SCs). You use SCs to buy cosmetics, premium armor, and "Warbonds" (aka battle passes). The premium store stuff rotates but the Warbonds do not, and they do not expire.

This is less abusive than recent crap like Destiny 2 and Darktide, but "just the tip" isn't that much better than getting entirely fucked so I'm going to hold off until the hype dies and people can actually properly talk about the grind.

It's a slow month, I guess

What's the monetization like on this? I knew this was one of Sony's GaaS. I think $50 is a good price, but what is the ongoing cost for content?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

You can earn the premium currency in-game but the rate is quite slow. Purchasing a 1000 Super Credit item is likely to take between 25-100 hours, and is equivalent to $10.

I've seen worse but this is still not great.

Kinda makes sense. It's the new hotness in an otherwise (relatively) dry month for games.

[–] Coreidan 2 points 5 months ago

I predict in 2-3 months no one will be talking about it because some other new hotness will come out. There is a ton of ADHD in the gaming world
