It didn't look like an expired cert to me, just looked like a blank skeleton page without images or posts. I thought maybe someone truncated the database. Maybe only certain servers were expired or something? I didn't look into it. Anyway I wish they were more on top of these things, preventative or at least more reactive. Glad it wasn't worse and it's back now though...

didn’t they just renew their certificate? It shouldn’t have been allowed to expire in the first place. And theres plenty of solutions which have autorenewing certificates.

While I definitely agree, lemmy instances hosted by generous members of the community aren’t necessarily ran by people who deal with this stuff day to day and cutting them some slack is extremely fair imo
