Even if they ban outright posting links to political and news content it’s impossible to stifle political discussion

Any post about healthcare, lgbt issues, gun issues, abortion, etc. the typical American political wedge issues will quickly devolve into political argument. It doesn’t have to be prompted by political articles. “I just saw my doctor and it cost $800” is an innocuous post that will set it off. “I just bought a new ar15”, “I just started HRT”, etc

Plus they seem to be forgetting that in twitters heyday they were often the place where news broke before the media got wind of it. “I just heard gunshots in the park” with a shitty cellphone video would be how a lot of people found out about a mass shooting that killed 8 people or whatever. Can’t ban news when it originates on your network

Stupid statement that’s meant solely for optics. And as you’ve said it’s probably openly dishonest as they are well aware of the role these topics play in getting people stuck in the engagement cycle
