About

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis aspires to be the same kind of Autocrat despised by the founders of the United States. He must be exposed for what he is: a great threat to our Democratic Republic and American values. Republicans don't punish big businesses like the Walt Disney Company for disagreeing with them. Fascists do. DeSantis and those like him are a massive threat to our Democracy.

Rules

  1. Nazis and Putin sympathizers are not welcome here.

  2. The tolerant, open-minded and freedom-loving ARE welcome here. Glad to have you good people : )

  3. Attack the media and expect to be banned. There is a good reason why the press is included in the First Amendment. If you cannot respect the vital role that an independent media plays in terms of checks and balances, this isn't the right group for you.

  4. Be respectful of our differences, whether it's race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

  5. No Spam, Threats, Harassment or Doxing of any kind.

  6. No trolling, disinformation, or low effort posts / comments.

A real news source: https://www.politico.com/news/2024/01/24/florida-social-media-restrictions-00137670

The big take away is that the bill has passed the house, but it still needs to pass the senate.

I don't know how I feel about this. Banning kids from social media linked to their real identities and made up of their real life peers makes sense to me but keeping them off of forums, link aggregators or article comment sections seems overkill. We do a lot of patronizing things for kids for their own benefits and not letting the dumb stuff they say at 16 follow them forever is a useful thing I think but trying to keep them from information is not useful.

...but trying to keep them from information is not useful.

Uninformed people are EXTREMELY useful to the GOP. The dumber the voter the better.

Agreed that this, and also with Fl's takeover and "anti-wokening"of its state schools point in that direction buy I bet this will have bipartisan support among the people. Parents I talk to hate social media for their adolescents but it isn't worth the fight since everyone else has it. This let's the parents shrug their shoulders and say "Welp kiddo, it's the law. Now finish your pledge and national anthem for the camera so the Board of Patriotism doesn't come visit. "

I wish social media would be illegal for anyone under the age of 80.

People were more social before the internet existed.
