I don't really avoid him. I use him as motivation to get through the harder parts of life like working and chores.
If I do xyz that I don't want to do, I can give in to 'that guy' for a bit. Seems to work for me but it's a struggle to keep going every day so I'm always trying to find ways to motivate myself to keep moving forward. I really love pot and being lazy so using that as incentive to do things I don't really enjoy as much has worked wonders to make life less miserable.
I downloaded an Acorn emulator and wrote a snake game in BBC BASIC, that was a fun weekend. Still smoked pot, but less than I would normally since I was busy.
Maybe he should have spent more time with "that guy"
Real talk: I don't think there's anything wrong with laying in bed all day long smoking pot and watching cartoons. If that's what you want to do with your life, go for it. Life is for enjoying. The idea that someone's life is only worthwhile if it has some greater purpose bothers me, and I say this as someone who considers my purpose in life to be making the world a better place. The world I want to build is one where we could all smoke pot and watch cartoons all day if we felt like it.
This closely mirrors what I read just yesterday in an interview with a social psychologist. It was in a german newspaper, but I‘m sure it‘s in here too: https://www.npr.org/2021/09/24/1039676445/laziness-does-not-exist-devon-price
He, Devon Price, wrote a book on the subject, ‚Lazyness Does Not Exist‘, which I‘m planning to read now.
What I thought was interesting from the Interview was that we procrastinate more with things that are important to us. (BTW his solution is not taking on stuff on your own).
I guess for me it would be, laying in Bed and watching YouTube Videos, but I'm not really trying to avoid him. I'm "working" (Studying for University) to be able to lay in Bed and Watch YouTube Videos in my free time
