... but it only works in the Business Edition 😪

I have tested it in my own installation which is the Business Edition but it doesn't work, I get an error 429 instead.

I hope it works better for you!

I'm really struggling to see why this a feature that you would want. I'm sure there is some sort of value proposition but it just feels like a waste of effort.

I have personally spent many frustrated hours trying to get a given container to run.

If a smart bot can save me that hassle and get me 95% of the way, that's a win in my book.

In the demo video linked above, the bot gets us 100% of the way. I'm sure it won't be that perfect with just any container, but it does save time and hassle.

I use Portainer a lot managing my docker containers across three machines. I have no interest in ChatGPT.

This honestly has me considering alternatives.

Alternatives to Portainer? No need for that. The chat integration is experimental, optional, opt-in, AND requires you to provide an api key. No risk that this will mess with your system.

But speaking of alternatives, I just recently heard about Podman as a good competitor. Haven't looked into it yet.

I know it's opt-in, but if they're starting to go down the "lets slap some AI in this, we'll get more investors" route, they're probably more money-first than feature-first, and I'm gonna start planning an exit route for their inevitable slide into that territory. I wouldn't be surprised if the "take 5" Business Edition licence they nagged me into stops being free some time soon.

Podman is more an alternative version of Docker, no? I was thinking of something like Yacht, but I think it's still pretty alpha.

You called it! Today I got an email from them saying:

5 Nodes Free is now 3 Nodes Free
As an existing 5 Nodes Free license holder, nothing changes for you!
All existing 5 Nodes Free licenses will remain 5 Nodes, including at renewal.
At renewal, the license issuance will change from 3 years to 1 year, with the ability to renew each subsequent year.
5 Nodes Free remains “Free” as long as 5 Nodes or below are used.
If you need more than 5 Nodes, purchase a Home and Student, Professional, or Enterprise license.

Great! Always nice to see a company make something less-free-but-still-free in the hopes I pay them for it. ^/sarcasm^
