Hope you guys dont mind I'm gonna be posting/spamming more content just til this community gets a little more active and there's more organic content

[–] throbbingpens 5 points 1 year ago

Mind?! Thanks for being active. I was busy with work the last few days but now I can try being active as well.

[–] Astrealix 5 points 1 year ago

what do you think we're doing with the daily discussion threads XD

[–] Roxamir 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I wanna help post too. Where do you guys normal check for news? Twitter? 🤢

[–] I_am_the_grass 3 points 1 year ago

Unfortunately, yes.

[–] Panzer517 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I am having issues posting content daily either on the website or the mobile app. Been trying to keep us at up-to-date as the subreddit but I think its a technical issue with posting.

[–] I_am_the_grass 4 points 1 year ago

Think you've fixed it. Saw your latest one.

[–] I_am_the_grass 15 points 1 year ago (3 children)

The amount of people in /r/soccer and /r/gunners who want to abuse people who support the blackout is too damn high

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thanks for making an effort in spreading this community on r/Gunners (at least I assume it's you based on the username). Not received that well it seems. It appears that our old home is filled with uninformed and narrow-minded people that frankly it's better to avoid.

That comment about Lemmy looking like social media from 2008 like that's a bad thing says it all really.

[–] I_am_the_grass 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The irony is that these people do not realise Reddit looks the same without all the third party tools like RES.

I honestly think Lemmy is a little buggy and the backend mod tools are lacking, but the basic UI argument is so ridiculous considering they're on Reddit.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Agreed. The only way you can pull the UI argument is if you're using a 3P app today which these users clearly aren't. Argue about the lack of content or whatever, but complaining about the UI is so ironic haha.

[–] ironeaglebird 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Your post bringing awareness to Lemmy was awesome. The abuse is ridiculous, accusing you of trying to grab power for yourself. People will always be resistant to change. I honestly hate being bombarded by ads. The official app is like an ad every two posts.

[–] I_am_the_grass 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yea, I really didn't expect to be accused of a power grab. Literally the first thing I did after creating this community was contact the /r/gunners mods and offer to hand it over to them no strings attached without me even staying involved.

[–] ironeaglebird 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't know if you have ever been a mod before but you're doing a great job. I appreciate all the posts you make while the community grows, it makes it feel more active. I feel like most of the early adopters to Lemmy are going to be lurkers and less willing to make posts.

[–] I_am_the_grass 3 points 1 year ago

Cheers, mate! Appreciate the positive words.

[–] Panzer517 2 points 1 year ago

100% agree, but there are 315k supporters on r/gunners. We don't need everyone to support or agree, but for a lot of reddit users might want a new home that already serves the exact same purpose. The tough part is going to be moderating and dealing on a new platform.

[–] Astrealix 1 points 1 year ago

honestly hope they join in the indefinite blackout, given Reddit's response. I've left "indefinitely" though so I haven't looked myself.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Let's hope the mods over there decide to push this place and then go dark indefinitely

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

@Invincible_World @Mijn_Bergkamp yeah, especially given the admins might be forcing subs to go public and ejecting existing mods: https://famichiki.jp/@Tsutsuku/110537730270070245

[–] 9point6 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Went to see what was going on over there, there's a load of people in the daily thread completely missing the point of the protest.

Hopefully just a loud minority

[–] Mijn_Bergkamp 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah 'I use the official app, it's fine for me, what's the problem' just shows the mods really needed to put up an explanation before going dark.

[–] MHPengwingz 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think they did put up an explanation and unfortunately most people are too lazy to read or didn't even bother because "it doesn't concern them I use the official app" eventhough if they read it, they'll understand what this takes away.

[–] Mijn_Bergkamp 1 points 1 year ago

They didn't put it on the notice when they closed it down unfortunately

[–] I_am_the_grass 4 points 1 year ago

Unfortunately, I think what the mods of /r/soccer and /r/gunners learnt today is that their users don't give a shit about them (ie. mods and third party creators) or any greater cause. They just want their subs back.

These people don't even realise in their race for karma whoring they are free content generators for reddit who in turn do nothing to improve the experience (just push more ads and propaganda).

[–] Mijn_Bergkamp 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

So, do we think Rice gets done today or do we have millions of tweets saying it's basically done but no one announces it until these stupid internationals are over?

[–] Gingerrific 5 points 1 year ago

I'm hoping it's official before the weekend but that's because I'm just impatient. Curious to know what is going on with out other CM signing.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Doubt it. England are playing Malta on Friday, so are probably travelling there today. I'm guessing it gets done sometime next week.

[–] Astrealix 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

We really gotta make a bot for this at some point

[–] Skyraptor7 8 points 1 year ago

I am gonna be working over the next few weeks on helping out with the source code to fix some DB bugs. Hopefully will be able to start making bots and the like soon.

[–] Roxamir 3 points 1 year ago

I'll try to get one going this week and pitch it to the mods to see if they like it!

[–] vizhal007 6 points 1 year ago

Window officially opens today, big statement if we got rice through the door on day 1

[–] vizhal007 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is there a way to sticky posts on lemmy? Also props to you for remembering to do this daily

[–] Roxamir 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes! A mod can open the post and it is in the overflow menu to pin it to the community.

Partey is being linked with two Italian clubs, take whatever offer you can Arsenal, get him the fuck out of our club.

[–] I_am_the_grass 3 points 1 year ago

Ignoring the off the field stuff, I also think it's the right time to cash in on him. He can't play twice a week and is one of those players that needs a few games to get going. If I had to pick one of him or Jorginho to play as back up, I pick Jorginho. A more consistent less injury prone player. Jorginho peak isn't as high as Partey but I think Partey is capable of more stinkers. Helps that Jorginho is a decent human being as well.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How are we feeling about a cheeky Mbappé bid?

[–] Mijn_Bergkamp 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Buyin him is one thing actually paying the lad is beyond us unfortunatey

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Break the bank for one season and then offload him to Madrid?

[–] Mijn_Bergkamp 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We'd break the club trying to pay him £600k a week

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Destroy and rebuild! 🫣

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

@sabret00the @Mijn_Bergkamp

Why? It would ruin Arsenal and everything that Arteta and Edu are trying to build.

Anyone who wants Mbappe at Arsenal now just doesn't want long term sustained success for the Club.

[–] kuijun 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I guess I don't want long term sustained success for the club.

Obviously the terms on which he comes here matter (purchase price, wages, etc.) but you cannot tell me that Mbappe would immediately elevate this club. Edu/Arteta have a vision for this club, yes? There are now multiple reports saying that our interest in Havertz is real. Are you telling me that Edu/Arteta would say no to Mbappe but yes to Havertz?

There is no perfect player. Perhaps the one flaw Mbappe has is that he doesn't track back well. But how do you know that his instructions aren't to hang out at the half-way line and spring the quick counter?

Also, this idea of "long-term sustained success" is a myth. Sports are nothing if not cyclical. There are windows in which to win championships, and you need to seize on them. And last I've checked, the last 15 or so years of this club we haven't won the league once, nor have we made it to the quarters of the Champions League. During those 15 years, we have never had a player of the level of Mbappe - a player who is unquestionably world class and arguably best in the world. And now you would turn him down? The last time we won the league, we had arguably the best player in the world.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

@kuijun You're missing the point. He would totally disrupt the changing room, wage structure, team togetherness.

I don't want any primadona anywhere near this squad.

[–] kuijun 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

He would totally disrupt the changing room, wage structure, team togetherness.

primadona

what evidence do you have of this?

say what you want about our season last year, but it was clear we lacked a winner's mentality. we crashed out of every domestic cup, laid an egg at home in the Europa League, and couldn't keep it together when City upped their game second half of the season.
