In the microblog, I had gotten a couple on topic, but against the rules posts. When asking the poster to fix what was against the rules, I found out they hadn't posted in the magazine at all.

I assume this is what should have happened if I had added anything in tags under the magazine panel. Considering one of the rules of the magazine is "no self-promotion", I decided it would be too much hassle to drag in content from the fediverse like that and left it blank. So this shouldn't have happened, I think.

Can anyone help me figure out how this came to pass?

@a_mac_and_con Perhaps kbin is set up so that it automatically pulls in microblog posts with a hashtag the same as your magazine?

Ie, if someone creates a mastodon toot or kbin post and tags it with #fanfiction maybe that post will automatically appear in the /m/fanfiction microblog section, even though you haven't explicitly selected #fanfiction as a tag your magazine is following in the magazine panel?

I haven't tested this, but it's a guess about what might be happening.

I’ll have to test the Mastodon thing. I have searched and found other threads and replies on kbin that have not made it to the magazine.

If so, it’s quite an oversight to have that be automatic without a way to turn it off. Sort of makes having rules for my magazine pointless. I’d like to avoid bothering people who did not mean for their stuff to end up there either… but I don’t want to delete things without warning either.

Thanks for responding!

@a_mac_and_con The way I conceptualise a magazine's microblog section in my head (at least at the moment until I get a better understanding) is that the microblog is not so much an integral part of the magazine, but more of a "what are magazine subscribers and other people saying about hashtags related to this magazine". So in my head the microblog has got one foot in the magazine, and one foot in the wider fediverse, with content from both sources appearing in the microblog's feed.

I don't know if that's the intention, or if a moderator is supposed to be able to limit the entries that appear in a magazine's microblog to magazine members only. (If so, that functionality may not have been implemented yet - bear in mind the kbin project is only a few months old.)

Maybe Ernest or one of the other developers can shed some light.

You can also raise bug reports or request features here: https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues - maybe have a scout around the Codeberg to see if someone's brought this up.

Hmmm - so you are saying you haven’t set any tags, but you are still getting external topic-related posts showing up in the microblog section?

Yeah, that’s about it.
