Alstom, formerly Bombardier, builds the shells of the new cars in Mexico, which are shipped to New York State where they’re assembled into the final product. The cars are then trucked cross country to BART.

6,000 miles of shipping for no good reason? San fran is 8 hrs from Mexico... Wtf??

It's very likely it's way cheaper to strap this thing to a freight train than build a whole new facility for this that's closer. Still does sound nuts though
