Hey everyone! I've been working on this D&D tool called DNDToolbox for a few years now on and off as a passion project. I just released some new features that I would love feedback on! It's a free site (no ads, no registration required) where DM's can generate random items, encounters and NPCs to use in your sessions. You can try it out here: www.dndtoolbox.app

Piece of advice, don't call it DnD so you don't catch the gaze of ~~sauron~~ hasbro

It also implies it's limited to DnD, though I think all of it, or most of it at least, works with Pathfinder as well.

How about rpgtoolbox.app?

That's a good point. It was the only domain name I could think of

What about something like "roll for loot" or "loot table", or even "RPG toolbox"?

Looks great! I use a similar system in my Obsidian notebook for my campaign. You might consider connecting it to the Stable Horde for text and image generation instead of ChatGPT. It’s a bit more complicated, but totally free.

Thanks for sharing! I'd never heard of Stable Horde before that looks awesome, I'll check it out!

This seems really well done, but it's only useful if you need truly random stuff. It'd be great if we could limit the randomness; for example we need a random sword specifically, or a random encounter with a specific subset of enemies, etc. Pure random is nice for random loot or magic shop items, but often you'll need a something more specific.

Edit: Also, for the NPCs, it'd be great to be able to reroll only specific parts of the NPC if we got one that is good but needs a few things to be different only.

Thanks for the feedback! At one point it was possible to customize the generation a lot like you said and even edit the properties directly but it started to feel like work instead of a fun side project so I scrapped it. It might be worth taking another look.

It's not exactly part of the site directly but I did connect a custom ChatGPT to the generation functions which allows you to use it inside ChatGPT. I've been experimenting with it for the past few days and it is able to modify the generated content based on the context of your campaign really well.

It is very well made, polished and all items are interesting. The only thing it might be useful is a filter used for narrowing down if I need something random but more specific (like only swords, only rings and amulets, etc...)

For a university project I've scraped a shitload of stuff from dndbeyond.com (primarly the homebrew section) - are you interested in that? I would have to dig if I still have the raw data available (were processed with some ai-model later).

Yeah that sounds pretty interesting!
