There hasn’t been a new Alien movie since Alien: Covenant in 2017, but director Fede Álvarez’s upcoming film has now just wrapped filming. A xenomorph from Alien Covenant, spindly-limbed, translucent and covered in blood

This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

The Alien franchise drought is slowly approaching its end, with Fede Álvarez's new movie having now wrapped filming. After first getting its start back in 1979, the Alien franchise consists of six films in total, not including several crossovers with the Predator franchise. Now, original director Ridley Scott has handed the reins to Álvarez for a new film, with the newcomer best known for Don't Breathe and 2013's Evil Dead reboot.

Many questions remain about Álvarez's new Alien movie, but, according to Collider, the film has now wrapped principal photography, which brings it one step closer to hitting movie theater screens. With filming now complete, work will turn to post-production and what is likely a large number of visual effects sequences.

More to come...

Look, I'm a huge Aliens fan. I even own a 3-sheet poster from Alien. I have minis from the tabletop RPG, comics, etc. etc.

I've only seen Alien: Resurrection once, in the theater, and never again. I hated the Alien with its human skin and stuff. Hated it SO much.

And now it looks like they're gonna do that again? 😭

The more movies they release (Prometheus, Covenant, AVP etc) the better Resurrection looks imo. I feel like the original 4 are all great when stacked against the newer films in the genre. Agree that the skin alien sucked, however.

Even though I hated it, I still bought it on Blu-ray. 🤪 I should take the shrinkwrap off and watch it. Maybe it won't seem as bad now.

I sometimes feel like one of the only people who actually liked Alien 3, taken on its own. If you wanted Aliens 2 you were going to go away disappointed, but the storyline was very much like something out of the comics. Aliens: Sacrifice is one of my favorite graphic novels and it has a really similar feel to Alien 3.

2 and 3 are my favorites.

I liked Resurrection up until the ugly one appeared.

Xenomorphs are supposed to be the perfect, beautiful killing machine, not that ugly abomination.

That was my issue with it too! Xenomorphs are supposed to evolve, not DEvolve. Why would it trade chitin for skin? Made no sense.

I remember being terrified of the scene with the failed Ripleys clones when I was a child but also liked the movie because the aliens were very visible in contrast with previous movies where they didn't show them much. But apart from that, it has been more than a decade and don't remember much.

I recently watched the original and aliens and my body is ready for Alien 3 and Resurrection.

I think I'm fine as long as we get more alien content.

I think i blocked the skin alien from my memory because i dont remember that at all

Hold up, there was a human alien? dafak?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It was something in the middle between human and xenomorph. Also the ugliest thing to ever exist.

I couldn't possibly care less about this latest movie.

A sequel to Prometheus that actually does something interesting with the lore, though? I'd be down for that.

Why can't they just let some things die? Alien hit its peak a long time ago. What are they going to do, make a documentary style video from the perspective of aliens with subtitles to translate their screeching?

[–] ashitaka 7 points 1 year ago

I mean, NOW I want that, thanks.

I feel that Ridley has run the franchise into the ground. Trying to explain the origins of the Alien has demystified the creature somewhat and that's what I loved about the films, the creature is a mystery.

I'm glad we're getting a new standalone film hopefully filled with fresh ideas.

I wouldn't have minded the origins of Aliens if they did a better job of telling that story, but having a human android with an out-of-the-blue existential crisis be the true origin of this terrifying creature is just...meh. And then having that same Android decimate the Engineer's home planet without rhyme or reason just shot the whole direction of the franchise right out of the sky. While Prometheus had a ton of faults, I was at least excited to see what the Engineers were like, but now that's sorta gone, unless they do a retcon of what happened in Covenant.

I really enjoyed Fede's intense, bloody Evil Dead reboot so I'm curious to see what he'll do with Alien

I thought we were getting Noah Hawley's TV show next?

Im here for it. He was a great choice to lead the next generation of Alien films.

Been hearing about this from Alien Theory on YouTube. It's a good channel, I really liked his video for the idea of Newt being cloned instead of Ripley for Alien 3

[–] Psaldorn 2 points 1 year ago

Just finished binging his comic reads, great reminder of the stuff I read as a kid, concrete jungle, earth war, and done stuff I missed like Ryushi. Great channel.

I don't remember how Covenant ended. Do you think this movie will pick up on that thread, our start a new one?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Ending SpoilerDavid tore his own arm off to pretend to be Walter, and the surviving lady noticed it as he put her asleep in the cryo-tube, on the generation/seed ship and it ends there with him smiling

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Well that's a dangling thread right there

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm googling that cast and thinking: is this a teen film?? Like, who the F are these people and why do they all look like children?
