After reading that other article making excuses for half assed movie adaptations and jukebox musicals, I look at this list with about half of the titles falling into this category. The other half appears to be revivals.

Unfortunately the name of the game - as in most forms of entertainment these days - is exploitation of intellectual property with a track record. People like seeing things that they know, and producers feel it's less risky investing in well-known brands. It's very tough getting an original show up, though it does happen sometimes.
