I see it. My favourite instance is the one this account is on. Because I live in Finland, and it is hosted by a local whl seems to be a reasonable person.
Why are all the answers here from FMHY? It was like 20th on the list in terms of popularity when I joined. I chose it because it had fewer restrictions - users can create their own communities and, most importantly, downvote (the chart I looked at said some didnβt have downvotes??). Also I assume pirates know how to run a server.
This is not the first thread where I have only seen the FMHY comments while accessing through FMHY. It seems sometimes a thread doesn't sync comments from other instances for many hours (or ever? IDK).
Why are all the answers here from FMHY?
My guess is because the default view is local, and this was posted on FMHY, so a bigger percentage of gold on that instance saw the question. Lots of folks flocking in from Reddit haven't figured everything out yet, and are only going to see this if they select "all" and scroll far enough to see it (like I did).
I don't know the reason why fmhy instance had more people seeing this but the question was posted on lemmy.ml, so it's not in Local of fmhy instance.

Yeah same, I'm from FMHY as well and I'm really confused as to why everyone is saying FMHY.
I picked it because I skipped over the first couple large communities looking for smaller ones that allowed everything. Didn't really care about the piracy aspect at all.
Iβm starting to feel we should delete this whole thread and replace it with how much FMHY sucks and is the worst instance ever the admins are literal trash pandas please donβt come here. I like it small.

Fmhy. For one thing, most of my reddit usage was related to Linux, datahoarding, self hosting, and torrenting. So coming here is the natural choice. The great thing about us pirates is that we aren't hated by very many people (and therefore aren't banned by the big instances), aren't generally extremists, and yet strongly support free speech. In fact, one of the only major instances to allow nsfw content at all and to not defederate a whole bunch of instances for no apparent reason
It's also one of the biggest instances still accepting new accounts, aside from lemmy.world, which is too big

How do you do that? Thought that's something that the instance owner sets up (whether or not our instance can communicate with others)

Yeah I wish we could as users block instances. I edited it cause I keep mispelling fmhy as fhmy
I'm from feddit.nu, the swedish instance. Or at least one of them, there might be more swedish instances I am not aware of. I like it because I can find local content and post in swedish.
I think everyone should aim to find a smaller instance where they feel like they belong to and create their account there.
There's no reason to have a federated system if everyone uses the same 3 large instances.
Came from lemmy.world to unilem.org and am enjoying it so far. They are stating they wont defederate
I think everyone needs to do their own sightseeing to see which instances are around - if there's a one-size-fits-all solution then that's actually a bit of a problem for the fediverse. Figure out who's running it, what their donations/transparency plan is, what their rules are, what their goals are, etc. I'd say at least in these beginning phases, applying a negative bias towards larger servers will benefit the community as well.
I switched from lemmy.ml (because it's being run by dev that spreads russian/chinese/communist propaganda and can do whatever he wants on this instance. This dev also runs instance lemmygrad.ml that everyone hates.) to lemmy.fmhy.ml because it looks like it's run by people from piracy subreddit I was following back on reddit and I trust them and respect them a lot.
"Lemmy.world" because it's the largest one for the moment.
Before the Reddit exodus, a few days ago, "lemmy.ml" was the largest one but it's admins are also on "lemmygrad.ml" !
They ban anyone vocal & lucid.
With no bias whatsoever.. lemmy.fmhy.ml
My country instance. We are small and all alone out in this ocean so it pays to stick together.
