To me It sounds like an automaker arguing for selling cars with 2 wheels. Then the customer can decide to buy 2 more if he wants to.
Yes I know it's not exactly the same, but for Christ sake, cutting it to 8GB is Apple bean counting to the extreme. Reducing from 16 to 8 saves peanuts, and obviously many will have a better experience with 16GB.
