If you have an iPhone, just squeeze the volume up and power button if you’re worried about it. This causes the phone to require a passcode for the next login.

Just to clarify for anyone else who was confused by this and didn’t understand what was meant by “squeeze”:

Just tapping volume up and the power button just takes a screenshot. (Which is why I was confused)

Instead, hold the volume up and power button until the power off screen shows up. Even if you cancel the shutdown, the iPhone will require a passcode to unlock.

When you leave your house, do you only lock it when you think a burglar is nearby, or do you lock it every time?

You would need to preemptively lock out your phone every time you fall asleep or get distracted.

Oh, and you have to preemptively lock it before you get into a car wreck, or have an accident, or take drowsy medicine.

Your fingerprint could have been lifted from anywhere you have touched over the course of time.

You have no idea who has the fingerprint to get into your phone. And you cannot change your fingerprint to revoke that key.
